Adventures in Collecting: 30 Years of the IQM
Adventures in Collecting: 30 Years of the IQM
Marking the 30th anniversary International Quilt Museum's founding, this exhibition reflects on the extraordinary legacy of Ardis and Robert James and their central role in establishing the IQM’s holdings. The quilts presented here come either from the original James Collection, whose donation to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln established the IQM in 1997, or entered the museum through the ongoing generosity of the James family. Together, they illustrate the vision that has guided the growth of the collection from its earliest years, whether they represent the global, historical, or artistic aspects of quiltmaking. Most of these works have never before been exhibited, offering new opportunities to encounter objects that have played a formative role in shaping one of the world’s most significant collections of quilts and quilt-related textiles.
